Kenyans in Ghana Association Hosts Maiden Tea Party to Welcome New Kenyans

The Kenyans in Ghana Association (KGA), in collaboration with the Kenyan High Commission in Accra, successfully hosted its maiden Tea Party to welcome newly arrived Kenyans into their new home away from home. The event, held at the Kenyan High Commission in Accra, provided a warm and engaging platform for new members of the Kenyan community to connect, learn, and feel a sense of belonging.

Moving to a new country comes with excitement and challenges, and the objective of the Tea Party was to ensure that new Kenyans in Ghana transition smoothly into their new surroundings. The gathering brought together the Executives of the Kenyans in Ghana Association, representative from the High Commission, and new arrivals, fostering a spirit of unity, support, and cultural connection.

In the opening remarks, Dr. Collins Misita, Vice Chairperson of KGA, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of community in making the relocation experience easier and more enjoyable. He highlighted KGA’s role in creating a network of support, offering guidance, and strengthening the bond among Kenyans living in Ghana.

The Chairperson of the Kenyans in Ghana Association, Emma Wenani, in her remarks encouraged new Kenyans in Ghana to stay connected with one another, acknowledging the challenges of being far from home. She advised them to explore local Kenyan cuisine options and also embrace Ghanaian culture by participating in local events such as weddings, funerals, and community gatherings, which would help them integrate better into Ghanaian society.

She further announced that the Family Fun Day Games will take place on May 10th, encouraging all Kenyans in Ghana to attend and invite their Ghanaian friends for a fun and engaging experience.

Ms. Anne Wambui, representing the Ag. High Commissioner, Mr. Daniel Kottut, reaffirmed the Missions commitment to the welfare of Kenyans in Ghana, addressing the attendees on the various ways the High Commission supports the diaspora. The High Commission continues to be a pillar of support for Kenyans residing in Ghana.

The Tea Party was more than just an event; it was an opportunity for meaningful conversations, networking, and knowledge-sharing. Attendees exchanged experiences, shared insights on adapting to life in Ghana, and formed valuable connections. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, engaging discussions, and a true sense of Kenyan hospitality and camaraderie.

This maiden event marks the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening the Kenyan community in Ghana. KGA remains committed to organizing more networking events, cultural celebrations, and informational sessions to ensure that every Kenyan in Ghana feels at home.
